Some unprecedented changes are happening in Waco, TX at Baylor University following allegations of the schools mishandling of sexual assault and rape cases. The school’s administration has fired the head coach of the football team, Art Briles, demoted the President, Ken Starr, and the athletic director, Ian McCaw has resigned. All of this came after an investigation into the improper handling of sexual assault and rape claims, many times handled solely by the athletic department.
While this shake up in the administration as a result of it’s handling of sexual assaults is quite delayed, it is a good sign. It is demonstrating that no one person is "too big to fail” on campus. Not even the very successful coach of the most popular team. This news also points to the fact that victims of sexual assault are being assaulted twice in these circumstances. Not only are they a victim of the initial assault, but they are being re-victimized by the administrators who do nothing to protect them nor ensure the proper investigation of those who have done harm.
