Say "No!" to Violence

Dear Friends,

The violence seen in Charlottesville over the weekend is a collective call for our communities to unite against violence. There are no innocent bystanders when we all witness, via TV news coverage, this type of hate-violence in our country.

This moment defines us as both Americans and global citizens. In our busy lives it is east to compartmentalize this violence as separate from our daily lives… But the time for action and movement is NOW.

This moment defines us on a deep level—a moment when civil society must declare with moral certainty that notions of racial superiority are antithetical to our common humanity and our future.

We must challenge one another to publicly disavow white supremacy. We must offer a counter narrative and model leadership that supports racial and economic justice. Say “No” to violence in our community, clearly, proudly, and without pause.

Standing firm in peace,

Anne Friesen
